Pet Food Calculator
🥣 Pet Food Portion Calculator
Calculate exact daily portions based on your pet’s weight, age, and lifestyle
Typical: dry food 3000–4000 · wet food 900–1200 · raw 1200–2000 kcal/kg
How Pet Food Portions Are Calculated
This calculator uses the WSAVA (World Small Animal Veterinary Association) Resting Energy Requirement formula — the gold standard used by vets worldwide.
The formula: RER = 70 × (body weight in kg)^0.75
This is then multiplied by a life stage factor to get your pet’s Daily Energy Requirement (DER). A neutered adult dog needs about 1.6× their RER, while a growing puppy needs up to 3×.
Why Bag Feeding Guidelines Are Often Wrong
Packaging guidelines assume an average intact adult animal. They don’t account for whether your pet is neutered, their activity level, age, or metabolism. Following bag guidelines alone causes overfeeding in most cases.
Signs Your Pet May Be Overfed
- Cannot easily feel ribs through a thin fat layer
- No visible waist when viewed from above
- Abdomen sags when viewed from the side
- Low energy or reluctance to exercise
